A holiday, a weekend away or a work trip changes your routines, including the private ones. Plenty of people leave their wellness devices at home because they worry about airport checks, about the device switching on by accident in a suitcase, or about someone seeing it. With a little preparation, travelling with one is much easier than it sounds.
Before you pack: battery, lock and cleaning
The most common problem is not security, it is accidental activation. A rechargeable device that starts buzzing inside a bag on the baggage belt is awkward for anyone. Three habits prevent it almost every time:
- Switch it fully off. Do not leave it on standby. Check the power button, or the travel lock if your model has one, is engaged.
- Charge it before, not after. Leave with a reasonable battery level and keep the magnetic cable in a separate pocket. If it charges over USB, a phone charger works just as well.
- Clean it and dry it properly. Storing it damp in a closed pouch is the quickest way to get a bad smell or damage the device. A breathable fabric pouch beats a plastic bag.
On batteries: the small lithium-ion cells in these products usually go in hand luggage on European airlines, but rules vary by carrier and destination. Check your airline's conditions before you leave rather than relying on what worked for someone else.
Which format is worth taking
Not every design travels equally well. Size, noise and how easily it can be stored without attracting attention matter most. Compact models in high quality silicone with a unibody shell clean quickly and have no corners where moisture can collect.
A flat-shaped stimulator such as the Wingy with APP takes up little more room than a glasses case. If you prefer something rounder, the Bulby egg vibrator with APP fits in a toiletry bag pocket. And for couples travelling together, the panty vibrator with APP is one of the easiest to carry, with the added advantage that someone else can control it from a distance. If you are not sure where to start, the couples collection brings together the models designed for shared control.
Travelling apart: technology as a bridge
There is another kind of trip, the one you take while your partner stays home. Here connectivity stops being an extra and becomes the point. A device with Bluetooth and internet control lets you stay in touch even with a thousand kilometres and several time zones between you. We covered this in more detail in our article on keeping intimacy alive in a long distance relationship.
If you plan to use the app while travelling, a few practical details help. With ActiveJoy, remote control works over the internet, so you will need mobile data or stable wifi. Download the app and pair the device at home, not in a hotel room with a shaky signal. Avoid joining open public wifi networks and check before you leave that no phone updates are pending. ActiveJoy needs no registration or personal data, a plus when you share networks you do not control.
Discretion without the fuss
Plain packaging, a smooth pouch and the habit of always keeping it in the same place solve most things. In hotels and shared accommodation it also helps to turn off lock screen notifications. And if noise worries you, test it at home before the trip: what seems quiet in the living room can carry further in a hotel room with thin walls.
On the way back, do the same in reverse: clean it, let it air dry and store it with the battery about half charged if you will not use it for a few weeks.
